Student Welfare

Health and safety:

On the Induction day, we will give students comprehensive Health and Safety information and our Student Welfare Officer (SWO) will provide advice and assistance to students on registering with their local GPs. Our SWO will liaise with students and our Health and Safety Officer will deal with any health and safety issues as it arises. For More information on Health and Safety, please refer to the Health and Safety section on this site.

Social Events and College Trips:

The College will organise and take students to social events and College trips, where applicable throughout the year.

Accommodation:

HCL will assist overseas students in finding accommodation through the College SWO. We will have a list of accommodation providers in the local area.

IT Skills:

HCL will run basic courses for beginners. Students on the other courses who need to improve their basic IT skills will be referred to these courses.

Teaching Quality:

As part of our student welfare policy, we will conduct lecture evaluations by asking the students to fill in a lecture evaluation sheet for each subject. This will be done twice, during the fourth lecture week and during the last week of the term.

The processed anonymous data will be available to the principal, and the relevant lecturers, academic staff and the administrative staff.

Sport:

HCL will organise and offer a wide range of sporting activities including football and cricket for students. We have professional referral mechanism with local community organisations.

Student Union:

Every student who enrols with us will be enrolled to the National Students Union (NUS) and will be given student union card, which will entitle them to student discounts on rail tickets and in some major business organisations, including Topshop, Topman and cinemas.

Student Counselling:

We have a student counsellor who can help students with their academic, career and personal problems. The counsellor will be available once a week. Students will be able to book an appointment and meet the counsellor.

Careers Service:

We also design our courses with your future employability in mind, preparing you for the world of work. Our courses are as practical as possible so when you get into employment you are able to get ahead.

» We also provide one to one support for students who need further help on their career search.
» We take students to relevant career fairs and career related events.
» Each week the Career's Officer will hold an advice session and job shop in the Library.
