
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) University of London External Programme
The University of London is one of the leading universities in the UK. It has been offering its external degree programmes to students for almost 150 years. The university’s external LLB degree is a traditional prestigious law degree.
Learning Aim: The objective of the programme is to enable you to develop critical awareness of common law & legal tradition and to provide training in legal research methods and study skills.
Duration: Three (3) years
Entry Requirements: In order to satisfy the entrance requirements for the LLB you must normally be at least 17 years of age at the time of registration and have passes in:
- Either two subjects at GCE 'A' level and at least three further subjects at GCSE/GCE 'O' level (at not less than grade C or a 'pass' if taken prior to 1975)
- or three subjects at GCE 'A' level (one 'A' level at not less than Grade D) or above
- or three subjects at GCE 'A' level and one further subject at GCSE/GCE 'O' level at Grade C or above
- or two subjects at GCE 'A' level, plus two further subjects at GCE 'AS' level
- There are many other acceptable qualifications both from the UK and overseas, which the University accepts instead of British 'O' and 'A' levels. Applicants with other qualifications not listed above and/or suitable work experience will be considered by the University on an individual basis.
English language requirement: The University of London reserves the right to request applicants to provide evidence of oral and written competence in English before an offer of registration can be made.
Awarding Body: University of London (External System)
Programme Structure: The LLB (Hon’s) degree consists of 12 units when taken through the Standard Route. Applicants who already have an undergraduate degree which is accepted to the University may complete the LLB in two years through the 9 units Graduate Entry Route.

1.1- Common Law Reasoning and Institutions
1.2- Criminal Law
1.3- Elements of the Law of Contract
1.4- Public Law
Year two
2.1- Law of Tort
2.2- Law of Trusts
2.3- Land Law
- In England and Wales, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board require students registering in or after September 2001 to pass ‘EU law’ in order to obtain a Qualifying Law Degree
Year three
3.1- Jurisprudence and Legal Theory
3.2- Company Law
3.3- Introduction to Islamic Law
3.4- Research Project/ Dissertation
Assessment: All assessments are set and marked by the University of London External Body. Examinations are conducted in approved centres in the UK and around the world. Exams are held once a year commencing in May /June. Each unit is assessed by a three-hour unseen written paper.
